Under the sea

My best bud from High School is having a little boy, any day  now, and they did his nursery in an adorable under the sea theme.
So I created a little sea creature he can snuggle up to.

Momma loved him and thought he was soo super soft!

The Owl and the... Penguin?

By special request two new creations came from the ol' sewing bag. A sweet little owl for one very wise woman and a purple and gold penguin for a creative little soul.

Once again my sock creature consultant was a genius in suggesting the addition of feet to the little hooter. Maybe she won't roll around so much now.
Next to come - one whale of a creation, something to tickle a little boy's funny bone, and maybe a barrel full of those monkeys!

UPDATE!

The smile says it all. I think these critters have a happy home. {Owl has been temporarily been kidnapped from her new mom, Noelle. Maeve was a little worried that leaving her Monkey and Penguin buddy so soon would be too sad. She is giving Owl time to transition. :)}

Not Monkeying Around

I'm on a roll! This cutie took me just about a week or two to finish. Her sassy style motivated me to the end. I might have to create a barrel full of these. She is a much cuter version of the traditional sock monkey if you ask me!

Dog Days OF Summer

Another pooch out the door for a friend who needs a baby gift for an expecting friend. It was hard to let go of this one. I find as I get better at the sewing and designing, they just keep getting cuter. I hope striped pup likes his new home. Personally, baby slobber is much better than the doggy slobber he would have been subjected to in this home. Hmm...whats next?....I think I feel some Monkey business coming on!

Gone to the dogs....

Well we have had 6 dogs in the house for the past two weeks and today we are down to 5 when Jack went home to his Momma who was vacationing in Italy! The house felt so very empty (roll eyes here), so I stitched up this little puppy to bring the count back up to 6.
This one is for a Louisiana Momma who loves Dalmatians! I hope she enjoys having him keep watch over her :) Nothing says love and loyalty like a smiling puppy dog by your side.

We've got cooties!

Well sometimes a project morphs into something completely unexpected. I was shooting for a bumblebee...and well....something else came of her. I call her a cootie just because I am not sure what bug family she belongs to. All I know is that she is a real cutie. Jeremy (my Darn Cute quality inspector) says cootie should stay here and be our mascot. I think it was his nice way of saying she wasn't my best creation:0). Now cootie is our movie room mascot who enjoys keeping us company every night from her lofty spot above the TV.

Reptiles!

It's Christmas time, and presents must be made! My nephews had put in their requests, so three more creatures were created!

Luke requested a cute little fishy (he is a a big fisherman at 4 years old). And so DRAGON was created...wait! what?...well, I started Dragon way before his fishy request came in. I owe him a few fishies to feed his dragon now.

Patrick requested a snake. What's better than a snake? TWO snakes. Like I said before, the socks lend most of the personality traits to the critter, so with two different sock types I have a pair of socks with very different characteristic. Good and Evil? Or maybe Cool and Cooler? Its for Patrick to decide.

Kitties!!!

Horsie created such a stir that I was commissioned to create this "purr"fect pair. Emelie sent me the socks, and I sent her this troublesome duo. Its amazing how as you work, personalities come out of these guys. No templates needed...things seem to just fit just right.

Getting Fancy

Maybe its because I love horses or because he was being created for a special little guy,  but this horsie took me awhile. One of my best friends in Vet school was having a little boy and did up his nursery in a cute Western theme. This critter has a few accessories that may keep him from hanging out with baby for awhile, but until the day Gage learns he isn't supposed to eat the buttons, Horsie will be quietly waiting on the shelf in his Western room!

Mr. 'Stache

Mr. 'Stache is a special guy. He isn't like most of the other sock creatures, no fluffy tails or long ears, but he comes with something else, super powers! He has the power of heart!  (No not like in Captain Planet...ok, yes like in Captain Planet).  He has lots of love and courage that he shares with the one who holds him. Mr. Stach shares these supper powers with the little boy he went to live with in GA.

Fighting Frog

On to the nephews! A new nephew was welcomed into the family, so I needed to branch from ribbons and bows to the slugs and snails side of things. You can't get more masculine than ...
Asian Fighting Frog!!!!
Hiiiiya!

In the begining...

There were two nieces who need a little companionship, love, and ready ears that only the likes of the Velveteen Rabbit could provide.  So Bun and Kitty were created!

These guys were my first attempts at a new craft and their sweet faces made me want to see what else I can create with needle and thread with a pair of socks. Right away I learned that patterns I found in the book were just a starting place for general shape. Depending on the sock material, the buttons that are available and  your stuffing technique, no two will EVER be alike.
